Peanut Nibs/Chopped Nuts

Peanut nibs, or peanut granules, are the chopped and broken down pieces of whole peanuts. As they are broken down into small pieces they are easier for birds to eat and digest, and they present less of a choking hazard for small birds and fledglings than whole peanuts. However, like whole peanuts, they are still high in natural vitamins, minerals and oils that birds rely on to maintain a healthy and balanced diet. They are also extremely high in fat which means they can provide the energy birds need to survive, particularly in colder months.

As they are a smaller and more easily-digested food, peanut nibs are a great feed for many of the smaller birds that might visit your garden. Peanut nibs are particularly enjoyed by bullfinches, chaffinches, greenfinches, dunnocks, house and tree sparrows, robins and wrens, but many other wild bird species will enjoy them too. Also, like our whole peanuts, we ensure we supply only the freshest nibs available to us. This limits the potential for a build up of aflatoxin, which is a substance prevalent in peanut crops that can be extremely dangerous to wild birds.

Peanut nibs can be used either as a food in their own right, or they can be mixed with other seeds or mixes. Unlike some other seeds they do not require a specialist feeder, and can be used in most standard kinds of seed feeder. They can also be used as a table or ground feed. Peanut nibs are not a seed, so they will not sprout unwanted plants in your garden as some other feeds can if used as a ground food.
